Academic Programs
Cosmetology
Cosmetology is
the art and science of beautifying hair, skin, and
nails. Students will learn such tasks as shampoos,
facials, manicures, hair coloring, permanent waving,
thermal styling, chemical relaxing, and hair cutting.
A successful professional cosmetologist is a talented
stylist, a personal service expert, and a self-promoter,
as well as a poised and confident salesperson.
The professional cosmetologist may choose to work
in an independent salon, a spa salon, a national
franchise, or an independent chair of salons as well
as hotels, hospitals, and nursing homes. The field
of cosmetology offers diverse "in demand' career
opportunities and the opportunity for a rewarding
and lucrative profession.
Students are taught the skills to perform duties
at the entry-level and to meet the standards required
for the examination by the Florida State Board.
Barber Styling
This program offers training in the techniques
and arts as they relate to hair cutting, shaving,
massages, facial treatments, and trimming and styling
the beard or mustache. Barbering focuses on shaving
procedures, men’s hair cutting, grooming
and razor cutting.
Barber Styling students are trained in the basic
skills required to perform barber duties and the
theory. Students perform services in the salon
clinic and on classroom mannequins. Students study
the Florida State Laws governing the practices
of barbering as well as the theory related to entry-level
shop work. Students will complete the necessary
requirements in order to meet the basic competencies
for the examination required by Florida State Board
of Barbering.
Nail Technician
This program provides training in the skills required
to perform various nail care and beautification
techniques at the entry-level position. Classroom
instruction and clinic experience meet the standards
required for the Florida State Board of Cosmetology.
As a Nail Technician in training, students perform
services in the salon clinic. Students will receive
specialized classes such as manicuring, pedicuring,
nail art and more. A certificate is awarded to
a student upon completion of the graduation requirements.
The program graduate is eligible to become a registered
nail technician through the Florida Board of Cosmetology,
Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Facial Specialist
Through this program, students learn the scientific
principles and fundamentals related to the structure
and function of the skin. Students will become
knowledgeable in proper procedures and skin care
techniques.
The instruction includes hair removal, waxing,
basic therapeutic massage techniques, make-up artistry
and aroma therapy. Additionally there is focus
on business and client development as it relates
to this industry. A certificate is awarded to graduates
of this program.
This program trains students for entry-level skills
for facial specialist employment. Graduates are able
to apply to become Registered Facial Specialist in
the Sate of Florida through the Board of Cosmetology,
Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Career Training Institute is an accredited member of ACICS and is VA approved. A high school diploma or a GED is required.
